Long-term nutrient deficiency changes the body’s metabolism and depletes internal reserves of protein, calcium and other elements necessary for its normal functioning. The body starts saving mechanisms by reducing the intensity of metabolism. This contributes to obesity, muscle weakness, osteoporosis, immunodeficiency states, self-destruction of weakened cells, and cancer.
